Abstract
Objectives: This study aims to investigate the relationship between the suicidal ideation and the chronic diseases on the basis of gender.

Methods: The number of the subjects is 5,264 and they report that they have felt suicidal urge for a year. These subjects were chosen from 11,320 people over 20 who were chosen from 15,568 people surveyed by the 1st and 2nd Korean National Heal and Nutrition Examination Survey(KNHANES) held in 2013 and 2014. SPSS WIN 21.0 program was used for the data analysis. The affecting factors of chronic diseases on the suicidal ideation, which are variable with the gender of adults, were analyzed by Logistic regression.

Results: The variables related with suicidal urge on gender basis were hypertension, stroke, arthritis, and asthma for men, while diabetics, cardiac disease, arthritis, and asthma were for women.

Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that the systematic management for the prevention of suicide be developed with consideration for the gender differences and the types of chronic diseases.
